Clavis

Self-hosted platform that sends each AI request to the right agent and model.

Problem

The team behind Clavis was building AI systems on different models that could not talk to each other. Work moved between people by hand, there was no shared standard, and each person lost hours debugging their own setup: how agents were wired, where keys lived, which tools worked on which machine.

What it does

  • An orchestrator that turns a plain-language request into a multi-agent plan with parallel branches, retries, and quality checks.
  • A model router that sends complex planning to frontier APIs and routine work to cheaper or local models.
  • Three model lanes Paid, an owner-only backup lane with a hard daily spending cap, and local models that run on your own hardware.
  • One agent team you can reach from a web dashboard, a CLI, or Telegram, Discord, and Slack.
  • An approval queue Skills and guidelines the system drafts from team corrections wait for a human to approve, edit, or deny them.
  • Installs on your own computer or server (Mac, Windows, Linux, or Docker) and can run entirely on local models.

Result

Clavis has its own product site at clavispro.ai, where teams can request early access to run it on their own servers. Operators send work from one place and approve every skill it proposes before it installs.

What it routes

  • Each request to the specialist agent that fits it
  • Each task to a model by cost and capability: frontier for complex work, local for routine
  • Model calls across three lanes: paid, an owner-only backup lane with a hard daily cap, and local models on your own hardware
  • Big jobs into a multi-agent plan with parallel branches, retries, and quality checks
  • Agent work to where the operator is: dashboard, CLI, Telegram, Discord, or Slack
  • Skill and guideline proposals to a human approval queue before anything installs
  • Agent errors to a pair of agents, one to investigate and one to critique, before a fix applies with rollback

Stack

  • Node.js 22
  • Express and WebSocket gateway
  • React and Vite dashboard
  • SQLite with full-text search
  • MCP tool and service layer
  • Anthropic and OpenAI-compatible model adapters (OpenAI, OpenRouter, Ollama)
  • Telegram, Discord and Slack channels
  • Docker
  • Vitest and Playwright tests
